Custom Gate & Access fabricates custom wood gates from only the finest materials available. If you’re considering cedar gates, you’re in luck; we primarily use kiln-dried, vertical grain Western Red Cedar in our gate construction. Your cedar fence gates will remain attractive for years to come because Western Red Cedar is a low-shrinkage wood and thus highly resistant to warping, twisting and checking. If redwood gates are more to your liking, don’t worry. Besides red cedar, we also employ a variety of other woods, including redwood, mahogany and fir.
Our gate construction process begins with rough timber which we machine to specification. We then tool and assemble your gate with outdoor weather tolerance in mind. We don’t use mechanical fasteners (i.e. nails, screws or dowels) to hold our gates together, nor do we use mortise-and-tenon joinery. We draw on traditional woodworking techniques to make all of our wooden joints. We also cater the construction of our cross laminated half-lap joints to the kind of wood being used to allow for full natural expansion and contraction. This type of joint has far superior structural integrity over the dowel or mortise-and-tenon joint.
Most of our gates are paint grade or stain grade. Our stain grade gates typically are 3½ inches thick and our paint grade gates are 3 inches thick. However, we can and will manufacture according to custom specifications.
